My journey didn't start in a boardroom. It began on the factory floors of Northern British Columbia, where the distance between strategy and execution was measured in sweat and safety protocols.
I spent a decade inside industrial operations and public sector organisations. I learned that the most critical part of any organisation is not the apex or the base. It is the people in the middle who hold everything together when pressure hits and priorities shift.
"The middle layer is not where strategy lives. It is where strategy either becomes reality or quietly dies."
During a leadership engagement at a pellet production facility, a group of workers told me about a manager who had been carrying the operation largely on his own for years. He found a way to make it work, but it was costing him.
That is when I understood what this work is actually for. These are not people who need to be fixed. They are capable and committed. What they are missing is specific, practical support at the moment they need it most.
"He wasn't going to let the plant go down. And it was costing him at home."

I spent over 25 years as a competitive athlete and coach, earning a Canadian National Championship and training with Olympic aspirations. On the court and training grounds, performance is immediate and feedback is instant. There is no place to hide.
That background shaped how I see development. Not as a program you run, but as a practice you build. I brought that same high-stakes, precision lens into L&D. What does this person actually need? What is the smallest, most precise intervention that creates lasting change?
The leadership challenges at the middle of an organisation look remarkably similar across sectors. That is not a coincidence. It is why this work transfers.
